The Father’s eye is upon Silicon Valley, and He is sending workers
Silicon Valley is great for hosting certain kinds of conferences and conventions, and horrible for others. If you are tech conference, then it is natural to host a convention in or near Silicon Valley (Apple’s Dev Conference, Google’s, ad:tech…). If you are a financial or games conference, then it also makes sense to have conferences here (GDC among others).
But multi-day Christian events or conferences have not been on the list for a long time. Not saying awesome groups don’t pass through or have one night events, but there are reasons why Colorado has so many Christians groups headquartered there and we don’t:
- It is way too expensive in the SF Bay. Hotels cost more, convention halls cost more, cab fares cost more.
- The Bay Area isn’t exactly a Christian hotbed (it is spiritual, but not Christian).
- In general, the populace is socially and intellectually un-friendly to Christian groups in general.
So, why am I bring this up? Maybe I see revival everywhere (I am trying to see the Father’s Kingdom coming everywhere), but it seems that God is drawing some large ministries to have their annual or regional conferences in the bay area in 2015, and I don’t think is a coincidence at all. I believe it is part of ploughing the ground, raising awareness of God’s desire to revive this area and to start turning hearts and minds toward him.
So who is coming to town this year?
- The Transform Our World group is having their annual conference in Silicon Valley. The last 6 years have been in Hawaii, and Argentina before that, but the ministry leadership felt explicitly called to have it in Silicon Valley this year!
- Gideons International Bible Fellowship is coming to San Jose (first time ever their national convention is being held here).
- The anti-trafficking event, Freedom Summit preceding the next Super Bowl here. This isn’t specifically a Christian event, but God is using it to influence area for good.
- RC Sproul’s continuing ministry Legonier is having their Conference in San Francisco (last year was in Seattle, WA).
Also, over the last few years God has also been specifically putting San Jose, San Francisco and Silicon Valley as a target for new church planters (see here, TBC/Stadia, here and many others).
I am sure there are more, and I am very encouraged God is drawing large and small conferences, large and small church planters and other Kingdom workers here.
Even though southern California has seem many revivals of God, and the northern part of the state is having an awesome renewal, the San Francisco Bay Area is still in a desperate need of God’s Kingdom to fall here.
Join with us in continued prayer and submission to God’s will, first in our own lives (for revival always starts in the individual you earnestly says ‘YES’ to the Lord), and then in the lives of our communities.
