Unity – A Currency of Revival

During a prayer time a few weeks ago, a young lady remarked that unity is a natural side effect of true love (which means disunity or division is the product of a lack of love). The end of John 17:23 (see below) completely backs this up, linking the world seeing unity to them knowing love.

file9711283703792If we love each other, we will be unified much more than we are now. And if we are unified, then we will also reveal what love looks like to the world, which sparks belief in Jesus.

Unity is the coinage which can be exchanged for many things in the Kingdom of God.

Unity hits the jackpot every time.

An analogy that arose during that prayerful conversation was that unity is like a coin that multiplies every time it is handed out. It can’t be exhausted, and it drives much action in revival.

Another example was that a unity coin hits that jackpot every time it is used. We really prayed into this theme throughout the night. I don’t think we could have lingered too long on the topic of unity and love in God’s Kingdom.

Sunday mornings at times can be considered the most segregated and divided time for the church. Not just along racial or cultural divides, as there are many diverse churches, but also along doctrinal and denominational lines.

It isn’t our Father’s heart that His church is thus sectioned out, some here, some there, some not talking to others, some thinking highly of themselves for having ‘correct doctrine’, better ‘missional focuses’ or possessing a ‘supernatural culture’.

Jesus revealed the Father’s heart, and His heart is that we should be unified. In His prayer before the disciples found in John 17:

I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. ~ John 17:21-23 (NIV, emphasis added)

All believers are supposed to be as close to each other as Jesus was to the Father, and the main purpose of this UNITY, is that the WORLD may BELIEVE. Reading the same verses again, three times belief is mentioned in the same passage.

I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.~ John 17:21-23 (NIV, emphasis added)

So let us continue to stir each other to love and good works (Heb 10:24), by seeking unity with our fellow believers:

  • VnoSf3JQUnity with believers in Christ of different races or cultures.
  • Unity with believers in Christ of different doctrines or denominations.
  • Unity with believers in Christ of different modes of worship or demonstrations of the Holy Spirit.
  • Unity with believers in Christ of different cities and regions.

Let our unity move the world to faith in Jesus. Let it be coins that finance Revival! It is Jesus’s prayer to the Father. Let it be our prayer for each other.

Unity is the coin that finances revival!
